| | International Day 2008
Every other year T.EA.C.H. alternates International Day with American Expedition
(United States) Day. For International Day a student selects and submits the country he/she
wants to complete a project / display / report. Likewise, for American
Expedition Day the student selects and submits the state of his/her choosing that he/she
wants to complete a project / display / report.
It is requested that each
student use a 3-part display board that stands on its own. "Show
and tell" items may be placed on their table. Each student is asked
to bring flag or country stickers to place in "visitor's"
passports! If the student so desires he/she may dress in an associated costume.
Here is the listing of items of information that was requested for
International Day this year:
* your country is part of which continent?
* flag
* country's currency
* capital city
* landmarks (mountain ranges, lakes, rivers, etc.)
* official language and/or languages with sample of useful words and phrases
* map of your country inside map of the continent
* native dress or clothing
* transportation, trade, and industry (main food crop, exports, etc.)
* types of housing
* religion
* area and population
.... any other useful and interesting information.
Other facts to include if you wish:
* schools
* media
* music and drama instruments
* literature
* art festivals
* sports
* plants
* animals
Each student is asked to bring cookies or any food item that represents their
country -- along with any utensils or items for serving.
The actual event begins in prayer followed by twenty-five minutes of the
student standing by his/her display answering questions, pointing out
interesting or fun facts and distributing their stickers.
The next thirty minutes is the allotted time for the students to "travel
around the world" to visit the other countries and to discover new facts
about those countries. Within their passports are questions they must find answers to on the display boards of other students.
Subsequent to that block of time, there is a time of fellowship and
refreshments.
Everyone, not just participants and their families, are encouraged to attend
this event.
